Korean New Year cakes!
I must admit, my greatest fascination with them is not so much their taste as it is their appearance. There’s a part of me that favours food in cute shapes, and this fish is darn cute—right up to the moment you bite his head off and expose his soft gooey red bean insides.
Its crispy, golden brown crust is juxtaposed against its soft pastey innards. Yum.  Korean New Year cakes!

Row upon row of Chinese goods. My goodness, I think they’re going to eat up a lot of No Frills’ market share. (Look at that, I’m using my new vocabulary!)
That lineup for the lobsters was… not worth it, in our opinion. So we didn’t line up. But lots of others did!
They had a Noodle section with gleaming glass panels showing their staff making fresh buns, dumplings, and noodles. They did look delicious, sitting in their steamers, hot steam pouring over and up, clouding the glass. But I had my eye on something else, something a wee bit more unique to mark the occasion… Row upon row of Chinese goods. My goodness, I think they’re going to eat up a lot of No Frills’ market share. What a dinner to ring in the new year!
My favourites were the ribs and the dumplings, and for good reason. Those dumplings are entirely homemade. That’s right—the stuffing and the wrapping. Now that’s hardcore. One of these days, I’m going to ask them to teach me… What a dinner to ring in the new year!

I was surprised (although I shouldn’t have been) to find that you could sue people in the new Game of Life. So very quintessentially American…
So in case any of you have wondered how many men it takes to preheat an oven, the answer is three. ;D I was surprised (although I shouldn’t have been) to find that you could sue people in the new Game of Life. So very quintessentially American…

Delicious homemade cheesecake, courtesy of my aunt’s volunteer appreciation party at work. I don’t know why no one else would want to take this home, but she had a whole half for us to eat.

Been super busy these past few days. Brain feels like it’s about to explode, but I haven’t felt a sense of purpose like this since I set my heart on doing well in high school.

Feels like I’m rubbing the fog of sleep from my eyes after years of cataractous vision.

Yum Cha (Part 6382)
Seriously, so much yum cha.
Beautiful restaurant on the top floor of the Western Market (西港城) that people love to use for wedding banquets. Grand chandeliers and winding staircases… it’s a gorgeous venue, no doubt about it.  Yum Cha (Part 6382)

The day before we headed out to China, Auntie Amy told us Sogo was having a sale. So of course Mom and I had to take a look. :) (Sketchers for $190 HKD anyone?)
We split up afterwards and Auntie Amy took me to see the Hong Kong Times Square, which is much too small for countdowns, considering Causeway Bay’s high traffic. (These photos were taken on Thursday, before lunch. It looks like no one has to go in for work. Crazy.)
And then we had afternoon tea at Toast Box before heading out to Yu Chau Street in Mong Kok (for beads and things).
I’d recommend Toast Box to anyone who enjoys condensed milk, pork floss, kayang (think coconut-flavoured jam), milk-heavy milk tea, and, of course, toast. The toast they have is thicker than the so-called Texas toast here in Canada, and they are not stingy with the butter. (If you’re feeling health conscious, then just skim it off when it comes—before it all melts.)
Also, it’s pretty cheap. :)

Lunch at Spaghetti House and then we’re on the cable car.
Got some bonus time on there as they did “regulatory maintenance”, so we rocked back and forth for a bit before proceeding. I’d guess it took us about 25 minutes to actually arrive in Ngong Ping. We had very hazy weather, but it made those misty mountains look just like those paintings. So deliciously moody. Lunch at Spaghetti House and then we’re on the cable car.
